Leaving our Mark

Oakton High School

School Renovation and Expansion

Oakton High School underwent a major multi-phase renovation and expansion to modernize its facilities and accommodate a growing student population. The scope included a new three-story classroom addition, improvements to the existing school infrastructure, and the construction of a one-story concessions building. MTI provided geotechnical engineering recommendations for the concession building and a variety of construction materials testing and special inspections throughout the broader renovation and expansion effort.

Public Library Modernization and Expansion

Completed in Fall 2020, the MLK Jr. Memorial Library underwent a transformative modernization, featuring the renovation of 465,000 square feet of existing space and the addition of 110,000 square feet above the original structure. Developed to enhance the library’s historic character while expanding public offerings, the project introduced major new features to better serve the community. MTI provided comprehensive materials testing and special inspections throughout the multi-year modernization and expansion effort.

Residential High- Rise Development

The Drake is a two-phase, mixed-use development featuring two 7- story apartment buildings with penthouses and two underground cellar levels, integrated with the historic First Baptist Church in Dupont Circle. MTI performed preexisting condition surveys, geotechnical investigations, and construction materials testing and special inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans.

Office Building Development

500 L’Enfant Plaza involved the construction of an 11-story office tower with a penthouse, built atop an existing three-level loading dock, garage, and podium. The structure primarily consisted of post- tensioned, reinforced cast-in-place concrete, with additional components including structural steel, cold-formed steel, and precast elements. MTI performed comprehensive construction materials testing and special inspection services in accordance with the DCRA Schedule of Special Inspections.

Industrial Data Center Campus Development

The first wave of CloudHQ’s Manassas Corporate Center (MCC) campus development was a massive 100-acre, 2.2M sq. ft. industrial development featuring four (4) one-story data center buildings, an office building, a power plant, new roadways, utilities, and stormwater management systems. MTI performed extensive geotechnical investigations, including over 120 borings, and construction materials testing services to help deliver one of the most important technology campuses along the east coast of the U.S.
